Road Trips Vol. 2, No. 4

Price: $19.98

Our newest Road Trips release, Cal Expo '93, captures the band hitting on all cylinders for two blazing back-to-back shows in Sacramento!

From the rare "Samson" opener and the unusually long and jammed out "Playing in the Band" from the May 26th show, to the bone-rattling "Shakedown Street" on the 27th, these shows are exciting and action-packed.

The two-disc set offers 19 solid tracks from these justifiably famous performances, spanning the Dead's repertoire from the '60s ("The Same Thing" to the '90s ("Liberty". All selections are previously unissued, and as always, engineer Jeffrey Norman has made sure the sonic specs are superior and presented in crystal clear HDCD.

The Bonus Disc offers more killer tunes from these fine shows, including Phil's tender and emotional "Broken Arrow" from the 26th, and the unique sequence of "Cassidy> Uncle John's Band> Cassidy" from the 27th, something they'd never attempted before and never played again! Quantities are limited, so order early to claim yours.

My thought when I saw this '93 pick:
What the fuck???

Bet it will outsell the 2-14-68 Road Trips, though....

Take a listen. I've been a 1993-basher in the past. I listened to this concert start to fin and enjoyed all except Wave to the Wind(the generic for prescription Beano).

I won't buy it, the Miller version is excellent, but the performance here is very solid.

It's truly an argument that's been beaten to death, but yeah...who is in charge of making these decisions about what to release??? IMO they need to just hire out Charlie Miller and have him and David Lemiuex sit down in a room and come up with a list of 20 or 30 things that NEED to be released, put the list out in the interwebs and have the "consumers" vote on their favorites, then start releasing them. That'll keep em in releases for at least a couple years.

That way the TRUE fans of the music who KNOW the music and have INSIGHTS into the music are the ones picking the releases. It's been 10 years since Dick passed on-the only guy who didn't seem to have his head up his ass when it came to picking good stuff to release-now I say we make it a people's choice.

Hmmm, checked both these Dead shows out (via here at the archive) and have to agree. Despite all the usual Deadnet hype, my money is gonna stay in my wallet until (hope it's true) the Bickershaw combined CD/DVD package arrives.

The Jerry show is another matter though.

Quite a birthday present for you. Belated happy day, hope you enjoyed a nice bottle. I'm guessing Cote Rotie to celebrate the occasion. I know jumped out on a limb with that one.

Thank you Larry!

But its pretty muggy here, so I went with an '08 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc to go with the Mahi. Hope you make it up here this fall...
